Transform Your Outdoor Space Into a Living Room This Spring

As the final remnants of ice and snow dissolved in early March, Sarah adjusted her clocks to spring forward, anxiously anticipating the arrival of spring in the days ahead.

With the onset of daylight saving time, the days stretched longer, infusing the air with a revitalized sense of energy, beckoning her to step out into the vibrant world of outdoor living.

Soon after the frost of winter had melted away, Sarah stood at her living room window gazing out at her spacious patio. The once snow-covered landscape had been transformed into a patchwork of vines, clover, low-growing shrubs and moss accentuated with vibrant pink and blue ornamental grasses.

The arrival of spring was tangible, and she knew it was time to prepare her outdoor space for the season ahead. Later that day, she would replace her old sliding patio door with a sleek new Harvey vinyl model—a change that would redefine her connection to the outdoors.

A Gateway to Spring

The cheerful chime of the doorbell at her front door signaled the arrival of the installation team. As they slipped on their shoe protectors, Sarah greeted them warmly, thanking them for their professionalism after a light rain made the ground soggy.

The team wasted no time setting up their equipment, and Sarah watched with excitement as they began removing the dilapidated and dated sliding glass door that she had contemplated replacing for the past five years.

Preparation and Safety Measures

The team started by clearing the area around the door to ensure there was enough space to work safely and efficiently, carefully placing foam sheets around the heavy door to protect Sarah’s floor.

Next, they used a flat-head screwdriver to lift the rollers off the bottom track and set the attached screen door aside safely, removing screws holding the stationary panel in place.

Then, like sculptures with exquisite attention to detail, they cut through the caulking and adhesive around the panel with a utility knife to release it from the frame, gently lifting it away to prevent any damage to the surrounding area.

Sarah watched in amazement as the team located the adjustment screws at the bottom of the sliding door, possibly covered by plugs, and used a Phillips screwdriver to loosen them as they lifted the door up into the top track and then pulled it towards them to disengage it from the bottom track.

Having efficiently and safely removed the old sliding glass door, they prepared the area for the installation of the new Harvey patio door paving the way for breathtaking panoramic views of Sarah’s garden, which would soon erupt with white, purple, yellow and dusty pink crocuses, trumpet-shaped daffodils in cream, white, and orange, flanked by purple Roses and white tulips with their oversized bulbs.

As the crew carefully measured and adjusted the frame, Sarah called her neighbor and raved about their precision and dedication. The sound of power tools mingled with birds chirping and the gentle patter of raindrops, accompanied by the soft trickle of water from thawing eaves all came together to create a harmonious soundtrack signaling renewal.

Outside, a Robin hopped across the lawn sporting  a red cap on its forehead,  jet-black upperparts with scarlet red breasts and a white belly, a reminder that spring would soon be here. Sarah smiled as she watched it search for worms in the thawed soil, feeling reassured that her timing for this home improvement project, though long delayed, was perfectly timed.

Two Spaces Transformed

By late afternoon, the installation was complete. The new patio door gleamed under the soft March sunlight filtering through scattered clouds. Its clean lines and smooth operation instantly brightened both Sarah’s living room and her outdoor deck, creating a seamless connection between the two spaces.

As if on cue, a ray of sunlight broke through the clouds just as the workers finished their project, illuminating Sarah’s patio and the budding greenery around it. Through her new patio door, this scene looked like a framed work of art—a preview of spring’s beauty yet to come.

A Living Room With Living Walls

With her new Harvey patio door installed, Sarah stepped onto her deck to take in the crisp March air. The faint scent of thawing earth mixed with hints of budding plants carried on a gentle breeze.

As twilight descended, Sarah returned inside, sliding her new patio door shut with a gentle gliding motion. She felt content knowing this upgrade symbolized more than just a cost-effective home improvement. Her patio door now served as a portal between seasons—a gateway connecting indoor comfort with outdoor renewal.
